Pop up - Rue du trésor : Galerie à ciel ouvert

With its European charm, this alley located between the Château Frontenac and the Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral is a must-see. From mid-May to mid-October, the street is crowded with artists every day, as long as there are visitors passing through, often until 9 PM. The rest of the year, since the artists are free to show up or not, there are sometimes a few exhibitors present on weekends with high traffic in Old Quebec, as well as during the holiday season. This street is where colonists used to pay their dues to the Royal Treasury under the French Regime, which is where its name comes from. In the 1960s, two artists had the idea to display their works there, and they were quickly followed by other artists who also liked the idea of showcasing their work to tourists and art lovers. Due to the popular success of the place, these artists founded the Association of Rue du Trésor Artists (AART), which ensures the smooth operation of activities and the enhancement of this unique street.

MATERIA

A workshop produced in collaboration with Hexagam and ELEKTRA.

Our cluster developed a prototype interactive installation allowing participants to explore different sensory/emotional/psychological states, with a particular focus on the underlying markers and processes of empathy.

ELEKTRA, in collaboration with Hexagram present MATERIA : Laboratoire public de création de savoirs numériques.

This event will bring together, over three consecutive days, local and international artists, creators, scientists, researchers and professionals from the artistic and cultural sectors. Invited guests and visitors, along with a team of mediators, will also participate in this arena of creation and knowledge sharing, at the intersections of art, design, science, and multiple forms of knowledge and forms of knowing.

Practice-based exchanges around technological and material conditions are the central premises of the Labo Public. Divided into 10 thematic clusters, the collaborative and radically multidisciplinary explorations at each cluster will unfold along a central theme: MATERIA, which questions the return to materiality, working with matter and tangible media in response to the frantic development of the virtual realm.

Anthesis exhibit -Audio immersive installation

This exhibition features structures and diagrams of plants morphological shapes in a digital arrangement. She mixes traditional mediums such as drawing and sculpting as well as more contemporary mediums such as artificial intelligence, programming, 3D animation and sound design. Inspired by nature and its mystical representations in culture and by metaphors of the feminine in nature, these interactive installations embodies the vibrations of life and the unification of voices. Similar to plants, these digital representations use photosensitive sensors. The viewer is invited to interact with these artworks by activating them using light, touch and movement.

SAT/Metalab Creative Research Residency

ULO will be in residence at SAT in summer 2021 to develop an immersive sound device adapted for a sound installation setup that will be presented at the Espace Pauline Julien in Trois-Rivières. The research will include the adaptation of a sound spatialization tool that integrates geometry in the space to evaluate and render interaction between visitors and the 360 audio, using SATIE (sound spatialization software) and machine learning tools.
This residence is part of a SAT Metalab research activities, and more particularly in the activities of the following projects i) Collective Spontanee and Adaptive Immersion (ICSA 2019-2022) which aims to explore the design of immersive sound, visual and interactive environments in all types of locations, and ii) Volumetric Acoustics Simulation in VR / MR (SAV + R, 2019-2022). This residence will contribute significantly to SAT Metalab's work, through the implementation of a use case applied to our research results.

I am very grateful to the Quebec council for the arts for their generous support for this project.

Conversation with Falling Spheres

Two circular interactive installations provide immersive sonic experience when tactile sensors are activated. The multi-sensory installation combines elements of a fire — stone and wood — a symbol of sharing knowledge and rites. One circle transmits vocal sustained notes, creating a set of rich and dense harmonies, and the other one responds with vegetal organic granulated tones. A dialogue between man and earth, a reflection around a “deconstructed” fire. Inspired by nature and its symbolic representations of spheres in culture. This interactive sound installation embodies the vibrations of life and the unification of voices.

Banff Musicians in Residence | Early Fall 2019

I will beat the Banff Centre in fall to work on a new music project. The Banff Centre Music program provides space and focused time for musicians of all genres to concentrate on artistic development while working on projects that can be either individually or group/ensemble based. I want to thank the Banff Centre and The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Quebec for their generous support.
